EROSION PROCESS IN THE CARIBBEAN SANDY BEACHES

چکیده
Beach erosion is a widespread phenomenon on Caribbean beaches, with rates of coastline retreat between 2.2 and 0.5 m/year higher reports in some areas. Different investigations indicate the combination natural anthropogenic causes highlight current influence climate change related sea level rise. It recorded as generalizing trend landward displacement beach profile, sand transfer above dunes bars process that fits better model proposed by Dean Maurmeyer (1983) than recognized Brunn (1962).

Variability of coastal suprabenthic assemblages from sandy beaches of the Caribbean coast of Venezuela.
The suprabenthos or hyperbenthos is the macrofaunal assemblage of small-sized organisms that interact for some time in the benthic boundary layer. Information about the taxonomic composition and role of suprabenthic species, especially in littoral zones, is scarce and scattered. This work attempts to contribute alleviate this problem. We analyze the temporal and spatial variations of suprabenth...

متن کاملDisentangling Diversity Patterns in Sandy Beaches along Environmental Gradients
Species richness in sandy beaches is strongly affected by concurrent variations in morphodynamics and salinity. However, as in other ecosystems, different groups of species may exhibit contrasting patterns in response to these environmental variables, which would be obscured if only aggregate richness is considered. Deconstructing biodiversity, i.e. considering richness patterns separately for ...
متن کاملIs nematode colonisation in the presence of Scolelepis in tropical sandy-beach sediment similar to the colonisation process in temperate sandy beaches?
The role of a dominant macrobenthic polychaete, Scolelepis squamata, in the colonisation of defaunated tropical sediments by sandy-beach nematodes was investigated and compared with a previous colonisation experiment carried out on a temperate sandy beach. Experimental cylinders, equipped with lateral windows allowing infaunal colonisation, were filled with defaunated sediment containing two tr...

The orientation stimuli of adult individuals of the beetle Phalerisida maculata Kulzer (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) over the beach surface, were studied at two sandy beaches of the chilean coast approximately 1300 km apart, Apolillado (ca. 29 degrees S) and Playa Universitaria de Mehuín (ca. 39 degrees S). Phalerisida maculata did not orient by astronomic cues such as the sun and moon, nor by th...
